Alexander Ovechkin Workout Routine

Ice Hockey - Day 5 - Russia v Latvia

Its been awhile gang. Sorry, I had a couple of things to do in the past couple of months like a.) save my day job, and b.) try to get into grad school. Both goals have been achieved and so I'm back and will try to update the site a lot more, especially during this great time for sports. We have March Madness and the NBA and NHL are gearing up for the playoffs. Speaking of the NHL, we've got a pretty BIG treat for you, thanks to my hometown newspaper. We've got some of Alexander Ovechiken's favorite workout exercises:

"Ovechkin's off-ice routine focuses heavily on recovery patterns to prevent muscles from breaking down — think ice baths after games and practices and plenty of rest. In the weight room, that translates into mimicking game-time actions as closely as possible. The goal: to stimulate top performance and fortify body parts that are more susceptible to damage on the ice."

Routine:

1. Rear Deltoid Raises
2. Squats
3. Landmines (you gotta read the article for this one)
4. Hip flexor stretches

Although they do strengthen the hip flexor, it seems to be very limited. link Sprinting longer strides and high knee lift is very important and having strengthened more flexible hip flexors increase this ability for this type of athlete.
